Friday Plan – Covering Unit 33
Theme - Cameras
1. List the different types of cameras – point and shoot, 35mm… (33.1)
2. Research 5 photographers that have used different types of cameras –say what they used (33.1)
3. Everyone needs to learn how to use a medium format camera and explain clearly how to use the camera – with visuals (33.2) You could even experiment shooting on film
4. Discuss your use of composition and always state what equipment you have used for each task (33.3)
5. Evaluate all working progress – describe what you have photographed, what could you do to improve the image, what are the strengths and weaknesses? (33.4)
Week 1
This first session will look at the different types of cameras from their origins to current modern digital cameras. The main focus will be upon the camera systems in use over the last few decades of the 20th Century into the 21st Century.
The use of twin lens reflex cameras to the more portable 35mm film cameras.All the way through to modern digital SLR cameras and the advent of modern point and shoot.
The use of these cameras will be discussed in the context of what were their main advantages and disadvantages, did they have flash and if so how has that differed over the years.
Your research will need to span over several decades and you will discover similar cameras as the ones shown on the home page of this website. Write about them and 5 different associated photographers along with a selection of 6 images from each photographer. Put these into your sketchbooks as normal along with a detailed interior image of each camera to show how they work internally and how the lens, mirrors, pentaprisms, and camera bodies work.
For example you will need to look at the following;
1. 120mm medium format twin lens reflex camera
2. Medium format 120 mm single lens reflex camera
3. 35mm film camera
4. 35mm digital SLR
5. Medium format digital camera.
The research that you do will act as inspiration for the studio shoots that you will be doing next week. We may if there is time start the photography, but this session is mainly about the cameras and the research before you do the practical work so that you have an image to work to.
Week 2
For this session we will be going into the studio in the afternoon,to use the medium format cameras, both film and digital so you can get to use camera formats that you haven't used before.
